Discovery Education Science Techbook For California NGSS Review

A love affair with Tech Techbook from Discovery Education

I fell in love yesterday. I participated in TechBook Connect Texas by Discovery Education, an interactive look at your digital scientific textbook. I was able to experience science from a student's perspective and felt something I had never felt before... LOVE for science! Unlike other digital manuals, Discovery Ed offers media, interactive learning environments and other functions that make personalized learning a fascinating experience.

Yesterday, on a deeper educational level, I could focus on the best way to integrate media into a classroom... an area that is often ignored. In one session we could have a lesson as a student. We switch between stations and offer a balanced combination of physical activity and digital exploration.

Before that moment, I thought that a digital textbook such as this could be experienced individually by a device. It is so in many classrooms. Our trainer modeled for us how teachers can bring practical explorations to life and integrate digital media into them.

The real strength of the technical-scientific book may lie in the fact that it is not intended as a digital replacement portal for teachers. With research-based educational strategies we have learned how learning through the technology book can be facilitated as an aid, regardless of whether or not the students have the equipment.

For example, the main part of the technical book is similar to any other 5E curriculum model. Within his means is a PPT file to "start" the warming. We have learned to take the startup file and adapt it as a projected "digital signal" file to make it easier to manage and simplify the lessons. As a trainer, I was happy to learn this, because I will duplicate this idea during the training.

The use of the Techbook in the classroom is not about reading and viewing students without interactive videos. It is about helping them to master their learning through reflective interaction with their rich media source. I have seen countless teachers play long films and asked children to fill in the empty spaces in a worksheet while they watch.

Students usually sleep before the title touches the screen. As one of our coaches, Patti Duncan pointed out that when children are asked to fill in the vacancies, they do not use critical thinking or a good understanding of the content. She has shared many tips to facilitate the media.

Personally, I have connected myself to five 'great tips' that teachers can do with the media in the classroom:

1. Video strategy: present children with 3 truths and lie about the media. Let her discover the lie and justify her in her diary.

2. The diary, digital or non-digital, must be part of the learning experience. Reflection leads to ownership.

3. Media strategy: provide two statements to the media and allow the children to agree / disagree and justify the media before and after.

4. (My favorite) Media strategy: AEIOU (Adjective, Emotion, Interest, Oh!, Ummm?) Children identify the moments of the media that reflect each sentence.

5. Children may not be asked to watch videos longer than 5 minutes.

With the multilingual support and the creative creator of the students, I could not imagine being a teacher who has access to such an incredible source and does not use it as we experience it today... attractive and thoughtful.

As a user of discovery sources for a long time, I must say that the digital Techbook is one of the most powerful and powerful learning portals I have seen in a long time. I will absolutely share your size with everyone who listens. The more I am happy as a mathematics teacher about what comes with the introduction of the digital mathematics technology book.
