Democracy and the history of the world
There is a rum
last thing in the Middle East, summarized in
the question, what exactly are these brave-much more courageous people I
had-rise against?
There were a lot
of comments all along, people want DEMOCRACY.
During most of the history of the world, most people without democracy. Most
Governments of the historical Nations were monarchies a form or another. Of the
republics prior to the modern era (ANCIENT GREEK and Roman, ANCIENT INDIA,
the medieval Italy),
only a small handful were real democracies-including this infamous political
experience, ATHENS.
So, where this desire suddenly democracy comes from?
Well, I think,
for most people, for most of history, democracy is not even a distant dream, so
fight for the not yet possible. Maybe it's a truth that when democracy is a
reality in a part of the world, and then all the peoples of the world want.
But I wonder if
in fact really the peoples of the Middle East
for democracy as such fights. What, in my opinion, could happen, is that they
are fighting against the corruption of their Government, bullying and so on.
During most of
the story the Government had very little impact on the lives of most people.
Even in monarchies, throughout history, the villages tend to manage their own
affairs, with officials of the Central Administration, regarded as a distant
(and not very friendly) presence. More centrally organised society in premodern
times was the IMPERIAL CHINA-but then again, there was
not only a one magistrate to tens of thousands of ordinary people. What modern
technology has done is to take Governments much more involved in people's
lives, to be much more effect. And people don't like it-especially when
government agents arrogant and bullying.
Modern governments have an enormous amount of energy away from their people.
Even in a society
such as Britain mastered the villagers and the villagers feudal and in the early
modern period in reflected themselves through their municipalities and parish.
During the 19th and 20th centuries, however the State expanded in every corner
of people's lives, like all others, in advanced nation. Psychologically, in the
West, we can remedy the situation because we can have our say in what the State
and how it compares to us by democratic institutions. Democratic institutions accountable to public officials. A free
press brings corruption out in the open and officials of the forces to resign.
A transparent system of justice requires judges to apply the right to a
non-partisan way. The right to lodge a complaint means that the police must use
a minimum of decency when dealing with ordinary citizens.
